JOHOR BARU: The Johor government wants a master plan to be drawn up soon to realise Iskandar Malaysia’s potential as a medical and healthcare hub in the region.
Mentri Besar Datuk Mohamed Khaled Nordin said that there were about 10 private hospitals in Iskandar Malaysia where most of the facilities were used by patients from out of the state and country.
“With the right planning, we can turn Iskandar Malaysia into a healthcare hub as we are located next to Singapore. Other than providing healthcare and medicines, services like sterilisation should also be looked into as the costs of such services tend to be higher there,” he said after launching the KPJ Health Camp in Kampung Nelayan, Permas Jaya here yesterday.
He tasked KPJ Healthcare, a hospital chain under Johor Corporation, to come up with the master plan.
“KPJ has four hospitals in Iskandar Malaysia and is indirectly linked to the state government. I am sure that with their expertise, they are able to come up with an effective plan for a sustainable hub for example in the next five years,” he said.
“We always talk about developing Iskandar Malaysia and the state but it is not only restricted and focused on property development. There should be a balanced development in the service and healthcare sectors as well,” he added.
